Athletics plays a very important part in the sporting lives of all the boys in St Mary's BNS. This is very much reflected in our school's participation in the Cumann na mBunscoil North Kildare and County Kildare Cross Country Competitions in the last few years. Many of our boys are not part of any club and have shown great potential on the track. Hopefully we will be hearing more from them in the future! Many thanks to all the teachers and parents who have helped out over the past few years.

On Friday 16th 2009, a strong team from our school competed in the annual North Kildare Cross Country Championship. This year the event took place in Kilcock GAA. The boys had a very strong showing in all categories.

The U-10 team finished in third place overall. The U-11 team also finished third while the U-13 team competed very well and achieved a top ten finish. There were some fine individual performances also, with Eoin Donellan and Daniel Courtney finishing third in their events, while Niall O'Sullivan powered home in second place in his event. Congratulations to all the boys involved. A special word of thanks goes to the parents who provided lifts and encouragement on the day.
