U-11 2008 Final

Hurling Final 2008 Video

Hurling

Hurling in the school continues to progress on an upward trend. Although no silverware was annexed in 2008, the boys competed very strongly in both the U-13 and U-11 Hurling competitions. Interest in hurling is probably at an all time high in the school with over 45 boys 'trying out' for both the U-13 and U-11 hurling panels.

Under 13

Our U-13 team were somewhat unlucky in their competition. After good wins over Confey and Celbridge, the boys were defeated by a 'strong' Clane side in the semi-final on a score line of 0-6 to 0-4 in a game where the 'crucial' goal just didn't come. At this stage some fine hurlers left the school for the post primary, where they are reported to be progressing nicely.

Under 11

In September of this year we gathered together an U-11 hurling squad. Although many of the boys were on the young and the small side!, they hurled with great determination and courage throughout the year. In fact they reached the County Final of the competition after encouraging displays/victories over Confey, Clane and Celbridge.

In the final they were slightly 'over-awed' by a powerful Naas side in the first half. The boys certainly redeemed themselves in the second half with a gutsy display in which they out-scored Naas 2-4 to a point. Alas it was not to be but there are certainly encouraging signs for the future of hurling in the school.

At this stage I would like to thank Dominic, The Club, Parents, Fellow Teachers, especially Pat O'Connor, for their assistance during the year.
